Under Michigan’s Open Meetings Act, this meeting is open to all members of the public. CACS staff and Census 2020 staff discuss strategies to increase Census 2020 completion rates in Shiawassee County. Capital Area Community Services, Inc. Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update as of 9/1/2020 Capital Area Community Services, Inc., continues to monitor actions and communications from a number of sources related to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation. It is our priority to continue to provide services to those in need while also keeping our clients and staff safe. CACS, Inc., has implemented various recommendations and actions as stated in the various Executive Orders and the Ingham County Health Department Emergency Order’s. While some of these recommendations include the closing of facilities and social distancing, at this time we continue to provide services with some program modifications. Below is a summary of program modifications we have made. We realize these are unique times and circumstances and hope the communities we serve are understanding of the changes we have made until further notice. Head Start Head Start program will resume services starting September 21, 2020. Services will be done remotely. For information regarding CACS Head Start please visit: www.cacsheadstart.org Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)/The Emergency Food Program (TEFAP) Our food program throughout our four county service areas continues to operate with various modifications related to pick-up hours. Already packaged food boxes are being put into the waiting cars. NOTE – Food distribution dates and times vary at each local Service Center. Please contact the local Service Center to verify current pick-up dates and times. CACS Service Centers in all four Counties Services provided by Service Center staff at all of our sites are being scheduled on an appointment-only basis. Signage is posted at all Service Center sites indicating how to reach staff. Financial Literacy/Property Tax Foreclosure Prevention Program Services should be initiated through an initial phone call. Staff will contact and serve clients remotely. Senior Information and Assistance Services are being provided by staff at each Service Center through phone calls and e-mail. Signs are posted at the Center with instructions. Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program Medicare Counselors can be reached by calling the Service Centers or 800-803-7174. Services will be provided on the phone or through e-mail. Tax Preparation Services Tax Preparation service have been suspended until further notice as per AARP and VITA. Homeless Program Services are being initiated through an initial phone call. In person meetings to follow-up will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
